Bamboo

Max. Height: 78 cm

Pholo, a conical shaped plunge basket, open at both ends is made of bamboo strips used for fishing in shallow, knee deep still water of beels, backwater, ponds, and paddy fields. The fishers plunge the basket in shallow waters forcing the spiked sharp ends into the mud with one hand and groping inside with the other hand to take out the fish that may have impounded in it. The vertical bamboo strips are tied with cane ropes and locked by flexible plastic wires. The upper side is narrow and lower side is wide. Pholo is mostly used for fishing in low and muddy water.
