Fishing Implement

Khobai Khopha

Bodo

Bamboo

Max. Length: 21 cm, Max. Breadth: 26 cm

Khobai is fishing equipment which is used to store fish while fishing. The shape of this object is square from top with an opening mouth. It is tapered at the edges but gradually its thickness increases towards the center. The central part has a circular opening and extends to a certain height. The Khobai is made by overlapped bamboo strips, thus having perforations on its body. Sometime cane is also used to tie the knots. The tapering shape in the neck portion of the object prevents the caught fish coming out. This is a common fishing implement used by many communities in Assam.
