Serja is a bowed instrument made of animal skin and wood which somewhat resembles a violin. It is made of Ejar (Lagerstroemia speciosa) tree. It has a round body and the scroll is bent forward. Serja is played by a crude bow made of horse hair. The tuning is done by tightening or loosening the strings. It is one of the most important musical instruments in the Bodo society. The use of this instrument is widespread among them. It is accompanied by a chorus of dance songs. This musical instrument is used in most of the folk and prayer dances like Bagaroumba dance, Baisagu dance, Domasi dance etc.
