Khokhla is a U-shaped tray, held horizontally in both hands for winnowing so that the back or arch of the U is near the body. This shallow winnowing fan is made of thin bamboo strips and the edges are strengthened with thick bamboo strips. The grains are shaken in the process of winnowing for allowing the chaff to spill out readily.
